Replacing Missing Teeth: Dental Implants

Dental Implants

Dental implants are metal posts or frames that are surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath your gums. Once in place, they function as anchors which can be used to mount replacement teeth. By fusing the implant to the bone of your upper or lower jaw, the new replacement teeth are firmly anchored and behave like natural teeth. In addition to healthy gums, implants need sufficient bone with which to fuse. As such, in order to receive them you must have adequate bone to support the implant.

One of the benefits of implants is that they are made of titanium alloys are are much stronger than the natural roots of our teeth. As such, there’s no need to worry about the decay of the tooth pulp or other maladies that would require procedures such as a root canal. In other words, once an implant has been successfully put in place, there is a permanent solution to missing teeth which keep the structure of the jaw intact as well as restoring both the aesthetic and functional aspects of real permanent teeth.
