Oral Health Care & Prevention: Composite Fillings
Composite Fillings
Composite fillings consist of a tooth-colored mixture of plastic (i.e. acrylic resin) and powdered glass used to replace decayed dental tissue. In recent years composite fillings have become more popular since they are much less visible and offer an aesthetically superior option to amalgam fillings (otherwise known as silver fillings). However, composite fillings may not always be the right choice as they are less durable as the stronger amalgam fillings which are composed of metals.
Composite fillings are typically a better choice for smaller cavities and teeth (or parts of teeth) that experience more moderate pressures during the chewing process.
